Level one: Hazard Recognition and Mitigation

This week we're talking about the second part of the four levels of safety series: hazard recognition and mitigation.

Let's get started with a quick recap of what we discussed in the first part of our series: level zero is nothing, not the place we want to be. If you haven't already listened to our last episode, "Four Levels of Safety" we suggest listening first.

In this episode, we're going to take a look at the importance of starting with awareness, because it's going to help us identify and eliminate hazards before they become more dangerous. And now that we're aware that in safety loss prevention, we have to begin to look at what are the hazards and how we're gonna mitigate them.

The first cornerstone of level one is risk management—eliminating, substituting or controlling the hazards. The second cornerstone is consultation—need to begin informing personnel about the remaining hazards through training, instruction, competency assessment, or guidelines.
