Level 2 of Safety
Welcome to this week's episode of the Vacation Rental Business podcast. In today's episode, we'll be continuing our discussion on the different levels of safety in the vacation rental industry. In particular, we'll be focusing on level two and providing some additional context on how the brain works and how it can impact our safety efforts.
As a quick recap, level zero is when we're not doing anything proactively to improve safety and loss prevention. Level one is where we begin to take some proactive actions, such as hazard recognition and mitigation. And level two is where we start to implement policies and procedures to help ensure that our guests, owners, and workers are safe.
One thing I want to clarify is the different parts of the brain and how they impact our safety efforts. The first part is the unconscious part of the brain, which provides basic life support activities. This is not something we're directly focused on in our discussion. The next two parts are the subconscious and conscious parts of the brain. The subconscious is very active in our daily lives and provides quick solutions to common situations. In fact, 95% of our daily activities originate from the subconscious. The conscious part of the brain is where new learning and improvement take place.
I further discuss the importance of training staff and guests on safety protocols, as well as conducting regular property inspections to identify and mitigate hazards. I also emphasize the need for clear communication and documentation of safety measures.
Next week, we'll be continuing our discussion on safety in the short-term rental industry and diving deeper into the importance of the subconscious and how we can use it to improve safety. I hope you'll join us then.
